Many of the DJ’s seem to play whatever is ghetto and cool in the United States (not the mainstream charts, but underground ones) without thinking much if they like it or not, if the music is any good or not, or whether the music means a damn thing to someone sitting in beautiful Vienna…. Zeebee played us a short set from priorities in the Rot Bar (in Volkstheater right next to Museumsquartier just outside the first district – great location).

With his Nicht nur Mozart, Wien Staastoper (Vienna State Opera) ballet director Gyula Harangozó has truly thrown down the gauntlet. Not just Mozart, as part of Vienna’s Mozart year is a very whimsical almost taunting title to a show.

For LaLa#3:CocoMotel, Laure Dever and Laura Vanborm brought one of the most ambitious builds I’ve seen in this space: a three metre and eight metre wide high green structure with movie screen on both left and right and a centre window. As we wait for the show to start we can just see urgent pacing behind the white screen on the left side.

Willi Dorner in 404 has clearly demonstrated for all who would care to see that the conceptual need not be static, that there is scant excuse to waste dancers in non-movement.
Leave a CommentOf all the arts, dance and poetry are my true passions…. The dance this season has been deeply disappointing since the fabulous Jan Fabre-blessed season at Tanzquartier a couple of years ago. The dance which is being commissioned and presented is conceptual.
