New Series | daily photo | Westbahnof | arriving in Vienna

The OBB conductors are very nice but those working in Westbahnhof seem to be chosen for their mediocre command of English or any other foreign language (most Austrians speak English very well). The selection process is calculated to increase the frustration to unbearable levels for all involved. In Westbahnhof, there is one window for local train information (second floor – also serves as baggage storate and lost and found), another bank of windows for local ticket purchase, and a third bank of windows for international purchase and international information. Heavens forbid you confound the function of each bank of windows, as none will give any information but that assigned to their domain.

now look where Israeli-style foreign policy leads

From Stratfor, who last week in their foreign policy brief were counselling the wisdom of the occupation of Saudi Arabia by the United States – taking total control of Middle East oil, come further suggestions for domestic policy. client relations | truth in advertising

“Never give the clients what they ask for.” After everyone finished laughing, I’d explain that we’re supposed to be the experts on presentation. Although clients usually don’t know how to light a shot or cut a montage, they are the ultimate experts on what they want to say and on what rubs them the wrong way. So there’s a second half to that mantra: “Always give the clients what they want.” Inevitably, what they want is excellence, even if they don’t know how to ask for it.

bargaining into the ground | sharon, israel and the price for peace

Sharon’s disengagement plan is the act of a man who has gone to the salesroom and offered – let us say – a third of the price the goods must cost him if he really wants to buy. Yesterday the members of his own party tried to shout him down. They say: it’s too much; make the man take 10%! Yet what if, rather than accept such a price, the man prefers to die? Or, more alarming for Israel, to kill?
