All information related to Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald has apparently disappeared from the Canadian Archives.

Our current website contains information that was written many years ago,” states a notice posted on the website.

Unfortunately, it does not always reflect our diverse and multicultural country, often presenting one side of Canada’s history.

Library Archives Canada acknowledges that some of its online presence is offensive and continues to correct these issues. That is why content that is redundant or outdated will be removed or rewritten.

While Sir John A. MacDonald was not a particularly nice man (he didn’t much like Indians, Chinese or competitors), he did play a very big role in pushing the railroads across Canada. Learning about the bad things we did to the Chinese workers (they died in scores, about 600 out of 15000 total workers) was part of getting through high school.

When I read this quotation today from Proudhon on Zerohedge, posted by Able Ape, I was astonished. The outlook is incredibly modern. It seems like such suffocating government would have started after 1910 or so. Apparently issues of top heavy and tyrannical government are nothing new.

An investment retirement guru is convinced that millennials don’t know how to invest and are missing the opportunity of a lifetime to invest their money in a stock market.1 which has never been more overpriced (ridiculous multiples) since 1929.

I have been stunned recently by some of the discussions I have had with some of my own children’s friends and relatives about finances and investing towards a more secure financial future….in talking to my own son, he states that his friends (ages 25-40) are afraid of the markets…. Some are even putting cash in a safety deposit box! If there is ONE thing I can never mention enough is that if you want to have a secure financial future, YOU need to save as much as you can, as soon as you can for as long as you can.

One of the great things about having a dog is that he will take you off the beaten track. Sometimes far off the beaten track. In this case on a 37 degree day, Thor insisted on going through the woods. I ended up crawling through bracken in shorts with low rise socks (very cool looking invention until crossing berries and vines in the woods).

In this case, Thor led me to a very old memorial tableau from 1909, reminding us of some unfortunate Pionier (in German) who were blown up by a mine. Until I saw the date I couldn’t understand why the Russians or Slovak would write in German, as the Russians also had Pioneers. But no, this was a trace of Hapsburg Pressburg, when Pressberg was probably about the fifteenth city in the Austrian side of Austro-Hungary.

Where the Austrian emperors came to greet their Hungarian armies. Ironically, it’s one of the last great NATO listening posts now, still fenced and guarded with now unneeded and obsolete gigantic satellite dishes. The woods stretch off in all directions for miles. From the watchtower one can see in every direction, from Hainburg to Bratislava to Kittsee and further to Hungary.
