As a European, this article on how Meloni is preparing to sell out Italy and then Europe cheap to Blackrock and private American capital, is extremely important. Via Niccolo Soldo who shared Thomas Fazzi’s original reporting on his substack.

Why do Europe’s leaders want to turn our beautiful lands into a giant military camp cum prison colony, administered by printing press bankers? The trade is almost as bad as the one the Lenape made, trading the island of Manhattan for glass beads.

FILIPPO ATTILI/US PALAZZO CHIGI PRESS OFFICE HANDOUT

Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni was feted recently at a swanky event in New York City held by the Atlantic Council.

I couldn’t get the lingering smell of rotting fish out of my nostrils for a few days after that.

Ipsos numbers looked gamed to me. I know that where I am in Central Europe people do not have any confidence at all in the economy getting better. There are huge layoffs in manufacturing in Germany, huge layoffs in technology (mostly in the US but it trickles out to us in Europe). The hot war with Russia (Russia was one of our largest and most generous trade partners: cheap energy in, high priced machinery/cars, luxury goods out) and a slowly growing trade war with China mean huge inflation.

We no longer even let our farmers work properly or earn a good living (anyone who thinks farmers live high on the hog have never worked a farm).

In the comments Peter Pan notes:

I think the responses would be quite different if every participant in the poll was made aware and took account of the demographic cliff facing many of their nations.

Someone near and dear to me sent me some photos of southern Ontario forest with the leaves changing. So beautiful.

This evening I ran across an essay from professional investor and thinker Jayant Bhandari. Canadians should enjoy Canada while they can. The times they are a’changin and faster than even I thought:

When I moved to Canada in 2003, its population was 32 million. Today, it is 40 million, an increase of 25%.

Had immigration not occurred, the Canadian population would have fallen, given its fertility rate of 1.47, which itself would have been lower had immigration not occurred…For those who don’t have a sense of numbers, more than one out of every four people in Canada arrived after my arrival twenty years back. As it stands today, 26% of Canadians are first-generation immigrants.

Russophobia is a hate crime https://uncoy.com/2023/05/russophobia.html https://uncoy.com/2023/05/russophobia.html#respond Fri, 12 May 2023 13:27:33 +0000 https://uncoy.com/?p=5488 Russophobia is a hate crime

Geo-political commentator and one-time long term yachtsman Dmitry Orlov has written a cogent analysis of why Russia would not be particularly interested in talks with the West in his essay No Reason for Peace Talks. He covers the basics of how the West, in particular the Anglosphere, has been lying in most negotiations since the 1600’s. Just ask the North American Indians, the East Indians, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, the Koreans, the Iranians, the Lybians.

Of special interest is Orlov’s short and sweet notes on the current Russophobia enveloping Western discourse.

  1. The idea of peace talks presupposes a modicum of mutual respect between the parties involved in the negotiation. And yet if you take any one of a great many articles about Russia being published in the US or the EU and simply replace “Russians” and “Russian” with “Jews” and “Jewish” and publish the result, you would rather quickly find yourself in jail for hate crimes.

How ready is Western Europe for war? https://uncoy.com/2023/01/europe-ready-for-war.html https://uncoy.com/2023/01/europe-ready-for-war.html#respond Sun, 29 Jan 2023 18:09:11 +0000 https://uncoy.com/?p=5272 How ready is Western Europe for war?

gregga777 quite sensibly notes there are neither the numbers nor the motivation necessary for a wide war.

These are the comparative total troop strengths of NATO’s armed forces “juggernauts” between 1990 and 2021 that are now passing out “the check’s in the mail” promises to Ukraine:

Country      1990      2021      Change
Germany      545k     189k       -65%
Italy        493k     174k       -65%
France       548k     208k       -62%
Spain        263k     124k       -53%
UK           308k     156k       -49%
Turkey       769k     445k       -42%
USA        2,181k   1,352k       -38%

Similar declines occurred in their available stocks of artillery, tanks, armored personnel carriers, aircraft, ships, etc.

In fairness, the Russian numbers of men under arms are much lower than in Soviet times. Heck the Ukrainians would be listed as Soviet forces.

Still judging by the enthusiasm of the Europeans surrounding me to give up their world of hedonism-lite to march to war, it’s extremely unlikely that most of those countries outside of Turkey and the US would be able to successfully implement a draft.

In the comments to US billionaires biggest losers in 2022 – Forbes — RT Business News, Pravda 2000 perceptively notes:

Throughout recorded time, and probably since the end of the Neolithic Age, there have been three kinds of people in the world, the High, the Middle, and the Low. They have been subdivided in many ways, they have borne countless different names, and their relative numbers, as well as their attitude toward one another, have varied from age to age; but the essential structure of society has never altered. Even after enormous upheavals and seemingly irrevocable changes, the same pattern has always reasserted itself, just as gyroscope will always return to equilibrium, however, far it is pushed one way or the other.

The aims of these three groups are entirely irreconcilable. The aim of the High is to remain where they are.

Russian and USA War Methods Compared https://uncoy.com/2022/12/russian-usa-war-methods-compared.html https://uncoy.com/2022/12/russian-usa-war-methods-compared.html#respond Sat, 24 Dec 2022 01:18:47 +0000 https://uncoy.com/?p=5258 Russian and USA War Methods Compared

On Dances With Bears, John Helmer compares 2022 Russian war methods with those of the UK and USA in the last seventy-two years:

JH: Siege warfare is as ancient and as moral as the Israelites around the walls of Jericho, the Masada defence of the Judaeans against the Romans, or the European Crusaders around Jerusalem. The objective is to persuade the targeted civilian population and military forces, no matter how hostile they may be, to give up their capacity to wage war. The lesson of the history is that the longer the city walls or the citadel barbicans hold out, the more destructive the result for the civilians – unless they are relieved or rescued by a force superior to the siege force….

The British and Americans introduced innovations like the Dam Busters attack on German dams in May 1943 and the firebombing of Dresden in February 1945.

vao makes a strong argument that no popular movement in Europe will be able to derail Atlanticist EU politicians at Naked Capitlaism.

What if massive support swings behind the AfD or any party for that matter than does not bleat the Russiadidit line.

Irrelevant. The gilets jaunes were ultimately defeated by relentless police and judicial brutality; the concessions granted by Macron were limited and have been swamped since by the consequences of the pandemic and the sanctions against Russia.

Governments have been learning from the gilets jaunes events how to deal with massive popular movements, and have since geared up for that (also in terms of legal tools). I notice that the German police is already on the offensive against the AfD, raiding its headquarters.

Will there be terrorist attacks?

The defanging of the Gilets Jaunes, a genuinely popular movement in a state with a revolutionary tradition is a worry. I think vao underestimates the damage that popular revolutionary movements can do. Radicals will find a way to go underground.

In the comments to ‘Push for unipolar world ‘turning ugly’ – Putin — RT Russia & Former Soviet Union, Paul Haeder marshalls some strong arguments against capitalism:

Capitalism can grow externally in terms of wars, foreign interventions and militarized accumulation. In fact, as UC Santa Barbara Sociologist William I. Robinson describes, global capitalism has become dependent on war-making to sustain itself. Or it can grow internally by intensifying privatization, destroying labor rights, human rights and environmental protections within existing capitalist markets in order to open up more avenues for profit. In this interview, Robinson describes it:

For 530 years now, since 1492, we’ve had outward expansion – constant waves of colonialism and imperialism, bringing more and more countries, more and more people into the system. Now every country- every community on the planet- is integrated directly or indirectly into global capitalism.

Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu has announced mission accomplished on one of Russia’s main military goals for what began as its Special Military Operation in the Ukraine. That goal is the establishment of a firm land bridge between DPR/LPR (Donetsk and Lugansk Peoples Republics) and Crimea.

What happens next? On the military front, Russia appears to have the upper hand and could continue to move forward in the Ukraine. This leaves NATO in a difficult position – the Ukraine would be lost completely to NATO, making the Russian Federation 576 square km larger. To lose the entire territory of the Ukraine would be a generational strategic and publicity defeat for the West.

The West’s original gambit was for a military defeat of Russia combined with an economic meltdown at home and social unrest within Russia. This has failed.
