Geo-political commentator and one-time long term yachtsman Dmitry Orlov has written a cogent analysis of why Russia would not be particularly interested in talks with the West in his essay No Reason for Peace Talks. He covers the basics of how the West, in particular the Anglosphere, has been lying in most negotiations since the 1600’s. Just ask the North American Indians, the East Indians, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, the Koreans, the Iranians, the Lybians.

Of special interest is Orlov’s short and sweet notes on the current Russophobia enveloping Western discourse.

The idea of peace talks presupposes a modicum of mutual respect between the parties involved in the negotiation. And yet if you take any one of a great many articles about Russia being published in the US or the EU and simply replace “Russians” and “Russian” with “Jews” and “Jewish” and publish the result, you would rather quickly find yourself in jail for hate crimes. Russophobia, which is rampant in the West, is no different from Antisemitism or racism generally. Why would Russian officials ever wish to grant an audience to such reprehensible, despicable people?

While racism is rightly castigaged in the West – while today blacks are by their nature good and incapable of crime or at least prosecution – Russians have become subhumans: not entitled to their language, their culture, their religion or their historic lands.

Clearly the West have lost our collective minds. We’d like nothing more than to repeat to re-Conquer the West. I.e. the genocide of the North American Indians.

What Russians have noted is how when Russia expands, there is no attempt to genocide or disinherit the local peoples, or even to take their culture.⁴ The local people are allowed self-rule and their leaders encouraged to come to Moscow both to study and for some to stay as regional representatives in national institutions. Co-existence in a federation, rather than suppression and annihilation.

The language which the West is using towards Russians and Russian culture is a hate crime and a war crime. We should collectively be deeply ashamed to have fallen to the level of the Third Reich, within Europe.⁵

There have been a couple of short-term exceptions for which, the Russian people going back to the Russian tsars have shown deep regret and stopped within twenty years. The genocide of North American Indians went on for about two hundred years, and only stopped now as there are so few of them left. It’s easier to give lip service to native rights. ↩

The essay is behind a (reasonably priced) paywall, so here’s another intriguing excerpt, predicting the likely long term consequences of the current status quo. “7. The idea of peace talks presupposes that neither side to the conflict sees a relatively effortless and low-risk glide path to outright victory, and yet Russia sees just such a path. The collective West has severely hurt itself by imposing thousands upon thousands of sanctions on Russia. Most importantly all of the EU, and Germany especially, have destroyed the basis of their economic prosperity, which is cheap energy from Russia and as a result have entered an economic crisis loop from which they will emerge too weak to oppose Russia. Across the ocean, the US is, economically speaking, a dead man walking. Its last vestige of economic power rests on shale oil, which is past its peak and set to decline rapidly. Its treasury and its banking system are both nearing collapse as the world steadily gives up on the US dollar. It is headed by a senile puppet president whose vice president is a cackling idiot. It is in a state of incipient civil war that is bound to flare up as financial collapse proceeds and economic conditions worsen. Given these developments, the US may no longer be a contender, US military bases around the world will become nonfunctional, the EU and NATO will dissolve, and the Europeans and other former American vassal nations will replace their American puppet leaders with patriotic conservatives and reestablish bilateral relations with Russia. Russia may have known what it wanted at the beginning of the special military operation, but what it might get in the end may be beyond its leaders’ wildest dreams.” ↩

UK Railroads to be renationalised after being privatised at great expense.

It’s funny – if a little sad – to see the UK finally putting an end to rail privatisation, ostensibly due to Covid-19. These operators largely failed to live up to their agreements, offered terrible service, impossibly complicated fare structure (the UK lost an annual trip per year due to double charging me for a trip from London to Durham due to a tiny error on a train ticket). After the operators have taken their profit and there are only losses to be had, those operators are reneging on their obligations entirely.

Train operators have estimated that passenger numbers will only return to 90% of pre-Covid levels in five years’ time, rendering previous franchise agreements economically unviable. The UK Conservative government who privatised the railroads at great cost to the public purse in the first place is effectively renationalising the railroads, except with an out to funnel some profits in flat fees to the existing operators. I’m far from certain that those operators are necessary as well.

There’s a reason the government runs the post and usually the trains the world over. Certain high infrastructure sectors like gas lines, electricity networks, highways, train lines, hospitals and space exploration are simply better run by government. Of course, sometimes government administrators, pardon the pun, go off the rails. Fix the administration, don’t trust private enterprise to do the job right. Almost all of the sectors I named have very high safety requirements. Private enterprise weighs safety against profit. Private enterprise puts profit above all. Private enterprise will take money to stand down from their mandate (legal bribes: Amtrack deliberately sabotages rail travel as they are incentivised and encouraged to do so).

I’m glad to see at least that the UK operators are not being openly subsidised for lower travel, due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Those rail operators are businesses who took a business risk by bidding on and taking on these franchises. There’s no excuse for them to come back to government hat in hand, Covid_19 or not. They don’t profit share with us.

PC John Lovegrove lied about assault: why has Lovegrove not been charged with perjury?

This black high school student in England was charged with assaulting a police officer. Fortunately for the young man, there was a CCTV camera trained on the incident. Very fortunately the police didn’t get to that CCTV camera first.

PC John Lovegrove had charged the young man with assaulting a police officer:

Lovegrove claimed the youth, who was handcuffed behind his back at the time and forced to the ground by police, rolled over and, in doing so, caused grazing and bruising to the officer’s knuckles. The youth was also accused of spitting.

The CCTV cameras showed the youth to be “lying there like a dead fish”. Lovegrove went on to accuse the young man of drug use as he had cigarette papers on him.

So the prosecution finally dropped the charges in court. Who pays the young man back his time and his grief? Well perhaps the public pocket this time as quite correctly he has decided to sue the London police.

How about the police officer who made up the story? What happens to old bigot and cry baby Lovegrove now?

Nothing. No charges.

Lovegrove filed a false report, intentionally interfered with the life of an innocent and perjured himself before the court.

Why has Lovegrove not been dismissed?

THE STRANGE CASE OF SERIAL THUG PC SIMON HARWOOD

PC Simon Harwood who has a long history of thuggery killed Ian Tomlinson on 1 April 2009. At first no charges were laid, but as evidence piled up eventually there was a show trial under carefully controlled conditions. Harwood got off scot free, effectively. Tomlinson was just a newspaper vendor trying to make his way home.

It’s entirely ancien regime. One law for us, another law for them. What kind of message does police immunity send out? What kind of brutes does police immunity attract to the force?

Apparently in the last forty years over 1000 people have died in police custody in London and this is the first time a police constable has even been charged.
