It was a hard fought match. SC Kittsee enjoyed a goal off the opening kick off from Captain Michael Wernecker (1′) but despite a dozen decent chances was unable to knock in a second goal until the end of regular time. UFC Pamhagen looked very dangerous at the end of the second half. SC Kittsee was fortunate not to end with a late game tie.

This is an excellent Austrian tradition. The U8 or another young team joins the main team for their entrance to the field, once per season. It’s to encourage them to continue to play.
The exit is more exciting than the entrance when the energetic young players run off the field.
SC Kittsee could not get off to a better start. A neat couple of passes from the kickoff put Michael Wernecker in front of the UFC Pamhagen net where he promptly scored.

The final score was 2:0 in SC Kittsee’s favour. The second goal came only at 92 minutes. The game was very competitive with both sides giving it their all. There were a couple of close calls in the second half which would have made it a 1:1 game.

Both goals came off the boot of Jozef Sombat who had an excellent game, as did Adam Bombicz, Michael Wernecker and Juraj Fuska. Here’s what the game looked like.

There was no real threat here with a a high ball which FC Winden keeper Roman Ostojic easily captured but Kittsee’s steady pressure up close gradually knocked Ostojic off his game.

SC Kittsee struggled to beat a club in the top four last week. ASV Deutsch Jahrndorf controlled the game. This weekend at home we faced FC Illmitz who is the third of the three clubs including SC Kittsee contending for second place in II Liga Nord fall season.

The substantial crowd for the last home game at 17h on Saturday faced an unpleasant early surprise when Thomas Wickl scored after two minutes. The rest of the first half was fairly evenly matched with Mustafa Atik equalising at the end of the half. In the second half, SC Kittsee enjoyed breakaway after breakaway and notched two more goals. A decisive win over a worthy opponent, which bodes well for the spring season.

SC Kittsee and ASV Deutsch Jahrndorf came into this game, second and third in the standings in II Liga Nord close to the end of the fall season. After last year’s struggle, such a result is a heroic turnaround for SC Kittsee. Both teams are big scorers with +11 and +14 goals respectively, but the story of tonight’s game was defence. Kittsee could do little beyond midfield, while Deutsch Jahrndorf struggled to finish their attacks.

There wasn’t much work for Deutsch Jahrndorf keeper Michael Unger. SC Kittsee keeper Manuel Schiszler had to work harder to keep our side in the game.

Here’s some photos. ASV Deutsch Jahrndorf have the weakest lights in all of II Liga Nord, which means sometimes faces are in shadow and ISO is very high.

Jozef Szombat was always guarded by at least a couple of Deutsch Jahrndorf defenders who did a good job shutting him down.

A dominating win at home at last, with four goals scored. It took a long time for either team to hit the scoreboard, with the first goal scored at 65 minutes.

Here’s three of the goals (sorry Tomas Bastian, yours was not in focus but have the celebration). There’s a brace of goals from Jozef Sombat to open and close the scoring and a penalty kick from Adam Bombicz.

Going into this game, SC Kittsee was in eleventh place in Liga Nord II, one point away from relegation. UFC Pama had 31 points, just four points off league lader Monchöf. Kittsee had the chance to pull themselves out of the basement and UFC Pama had the chance to make a run at the crown (which is, as I’ve covered in past seasons) is fool’s gold. With the crown comes promotion into Landesliga Burgenland where the small towns of Burgenland Liga Nord II don’t have much hope of winning and much longer travel to away games to far away destinations like Güssing (185km, over two hours drive) and Pinkafeld. The close games are all more than an hour’s drive away, instead of ten minutes down the road to Pama or Gattendorf.

Still UFC Pama was gunning for that third spot and didn’t want to lose a derby game, particularly to what had been a lackluster 2021-2022 Kittsee club.

Going into game 24 of the 2021/2022 season, ASV Deutsch Jahrndorf was in second place with 41 points, eight points behind II Liga Nord leader Andau but only one point behind UFC Pama. Second place is the worst place to finish, as the team ends up without a championship crown and face promotion to Landesliga Burgenland, with much more distant travel and slim hopes of winning more than a few games against very stiff competition.

SC Kittsee on the other hand was sitting in twelfth spot, headed for relegation. A win was crucial. Ironically in the Covid shortened 2020/2021 season, SC Kittsee was first and ASV Deutsch Jahrndorf was last.1

The game ended up played mostly in mid-field, with neither team making many chances, nor showing any particular flair. It was if neither side particularly wanted to win until the last twenty-five minutes when SC Kittsee picked up the pace.

It was a tough fall season for SC Kittsee with just two wins and 8 points sharing the bottom of the standings with Apetlon, positiond for relegation. The spring season has started off much better with a 1-1 tie with top tier SV Wimpassing on 26 March followed by 5-0 drubbing of fellow cellar-dweller Apetlon on Wednesday 30 March. On Saturday night, March 30, SC Kittsee earned another point, tying a lively mid-standings Tadten team, 1-1. That’s three games with one win and two ties in a week. Saturday night was very cold and ended in a snow storm. Here’s some photos.

After the draw at home against UFC Pama, a “tricky” away game awaited us in Kittsee.

From the beginning, we were well in the game against the somewhat unsettled home side.

On Saturday 25 September FC Winden am See visited SC Kittsee at home. FC Winden is a middle of the table club with three wins, two ties and four losses. It was a great chance for SC Kittsee to make us some points and get out of the basement.

From their arrival though FC Winden am See seemed to want to the win more than SC Kittsee. Our talented players like Pavol Bellas and Jaroslav Machovec had more chances in the first half than FC Winden. Bad luck struck in injury time with a first goal from FC Winden.

At the break, FC Winden coach Zoltan Fekete gave his team no time to relax in the dressing room but brought them out to the back corner of the field (photo) and delivered a tough speech about not giving up the win now that they had Kittsee down a goal.

Last Friday, SC Kittsee notched its first win in league play in 2021 with a clean sheet against USC Wallern. The game was quite choppy with eight yellow cards distributed evenly between the sides. Kittsee enjoyed a clear advantage most of the game, with their own goal rarely threatened. Only the fine work of lifetime Wallern defender Simon Steiner at the back kept the game close.
